Painted Rawhide Envelope Bag with Smoked Fringe

Hand-scraped rawhide (beef); painted with earth pigments and outlined in India ink. The laces and fringe are smoked, brain-tanned deer hide.

The envelope bag is a smaller version of a man’s medicine bag. The owner would put good luck charms such as tobacco, sage, medicinal plants, feathers, animal parts or items he felt brought him good luck or protection.

DISCLAIMER - The smoked fringe smells like campfire smoke.
